*Horses*
Between 1980 and September 20, 2003, 3,892,225 American horses have been brutally slaughtered in foreign
owned slaughterhouses located in the United States. Between 1990 and 2000, another 500,000 horses have been exported
to Canada for slaughter.
Every Monday in New Holland, Pennsylvania between 200-400 horses of all ages and breeds are sold at the
largest horse slaughter sale east of the Mississippi. Aproximately 70% are sold to out of state killer buyers who transport
them to foreign owned slaughterhouses located in Canada, Texas, and possibly Illinois for human consumption overseas. Former
racehorses, show horses, Amish driving horses, workhorses, camp horses, children's ponies, stallions, and even pregnant mares
and foals are bought by the killers. They are shipped to these places on double decker cattle trucks that are packed way too
full. A good percent of them die on the way there. They are not fed, not watered, and not really checked up on, either.
Horses slaughtered for meat and pregnant mares catherized to obtain urine for the making of Premarin (estrogen
replacement therapy).
